A FULL SWITCH?

So with two weeks of using my new MacBook Pro, I’ve no inhibitions in saying I’ve fallen for this product by Apple, hook, line, and sinker. Everything is just so easy when using it. Calling up apps, using widgets, playing multimedia … it’s just all so easy.

Case in point. I inserted a DVD, The Incredibles, gave the mini wireless remote to Harp, and within minutes, she was watching the movie, then flipping over to iTunes to play some songs, then flipping over to iPhoto, to check out the pictures we had recently taken … all with the remote.

We have a vacation planned in four weeks. Knowing this, Harp looks at me and says sternly, “You are so bringing this with us.”

Beyond all the normal easy computing, my workflow has increased. I’ve become more productive. Now, a lot of that has to do with the fact that I’m mobile, but a secondary chunk of that has to do with the fact that I’m not busy fussing about configuring things to work before actually using them. I just plug in and go. So much time is saved.

Now with all of this, I’m seriously starting to consider making the full switch over to Apple for just about everything. I’m looking at the iPhone, Apple TV for the multimedia needs of our upcoming home, and the Mac Pro to handle all the hardcore computing I’m looking to do.

Now, this is all just research, but the more I do, the more motivated and comfortable I become at making the full switch. I’ve even hung out at the local Apple Store and watched the demonstrations the Apple “Genius’s” give (find the add called Genius).

You might think me crazy, but I can totally see the family using Apple products for our future home contributing, sharing, researching, working, and enjoying our daily experiences with ease and comfort. No fuss over how to set things up and get them to work so we can START to share. Just doing it.

Plus there is the added bonus, although minor for me, but big for Harp, that the Apple design fits into the overall aesthetic that Harp so covets ... simple and clean.

THINKING

  • Spending will make you happier, but not in the way you think. Interesting read over at Secular Philosophy.

  • When flying 35,000 feet above land, I stare down at the natural landscape and marvel at it ... and every time I fly over a city, town, etc. ... I can’t help but to think ... so this is what cancer looks like.

I know, it’s harsh, but have a look, cities and towns just don’t blend very well with the natural landscape.

  • According to this read over at Dailytech, the XBOX360 has a 33% failure rate! Like what?? Like how much? Like one in every three units will have hardware failure! I love my box ... and I’m touching wood it stays in with the other 66%.

  • Old news for some of you out there, but “Demon Days” by Gorillaz ... not bad eh? Not bad at all. Nice tunes on that list.

  • Yes it’s true .. i know Gorn and I also know ShoeGirl. Personally, I think he could have gone a lot more than 30 days.

  • A 16 year old girl proclaimed she is an atheist. The reporter asked her why and she promptly replied, “I was born that way.”

Interesting ... she’s right, you know.

CURRENTLY

  • Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.

  • The God Delusion : Richard Dawkins

Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.

  • Hopes and Fears : Keane

"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.

  • Gears Of War

As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
