CIRCULAR SUBURBS

En route home from Mexico, we made stops in Phoenix and Las Vegas. I know, it sounds pretty rough. Direct flights are always best, but it wasn’t so bad considering things moved along well in Phoenix and we had plenty of time to relax in Las Vegas, a fact that was abundantly appreciated considering we had kids.

Look at those neighborhoods, hun. They’re circular and have golf courses running through them

When leaving for Las Vegas from Phoenix, I was struck by the one section of the suburbs, Sun City (just northwest of Phoenix) when looking down from the window.

The streets were circular and had golf courses woven in and around them. My first impressions were “wow, that’s cool” and I immediately became envious of the people living in that area. I guess it was the idea of living on a circular street.

Hmm, but I bet it would be tough to play street hockey there

But then, you’d have to figure that your kids wouldn’t find playing street sports very “straight” forward. Heh.

It’s like working out, man. Take boxing, for example, three matches of that and I swear you’ll put the controllers down sweating like you just finished Billy Blanks Tae Bo

I remember saying once that video game consoles would be great for kids if they would somehow incorporate physical activity as a part of the game. Well, along came the Wii, and we have just that.

A half to full hour of playing either Tennis or Boxing in the Wii Sports, and you’re getting pretty decent workout, but with all the raving and encouragement for the kids (me included) to play, a true workout game was needed.

Then, this morning Wii Fit was announced. It looks like you need some additional peripherals to play (work out?) this game, but GameSpot gives a decent write up.

CURRENTLY

  • Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.

  • The God Delusion : Richard Dawkins

Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.

  • Hopes and Fears : Keane

"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.

  • Gears Of War

As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
