MINDBLOSSOM

That’s the crack outfit I’ve joined and I have to say my first two weeks here have been really enjoyable. There are some adjustments I’ve had to make, mostly in the commuting department. Some minor ones with finding things to eat, but working in Toronto leaves you with no shortage of options on that front. But …

… the most exciting thing about working here is playing around, very heavily, with ActionScript 3.0, being involved in the input of design, and being creative again. It’s a very fun atmosphere. Don’t get me wrong, the guys and gals take a great deal of pride in their work and work hard.

It’s just good to be doing something you really enjoy doing with much more creative flair.

I’m working with a new framework that has been developed recently. It’s a nicely mixed mesh of MVC and Singleton design patterns. At first onset, I was a little overwhelmed when looking at the code behind it. And here’s why …

ActionScript, for all its flavors, has always been a “loose” language to work with, but the release of ActionScript 3.0 allowed developers to code out much more structured projects. It’s the shear structure that caught me off guard … hehe. So, after having some time to sift through this framework, its logic, and the intent of all the pieces have become much clearer.

Now comes the part where I learn how to implement the framework in projects. As well as the decision making process that takes place as to how the code will be structured once all the design elements have been put in place.

Another aspect I’m looking forward to is leveraging some of the stuff I’ve done in the past and adding them into this framework. There could be a whole gaming package, as well as an entirely new transaction package added in. Making this framework very powerful.

And then there’s the new methods and techniques behind some really cool cutting edge animations … I can’t wait to start playing around with that stuff …..

THINKING

  • Spending will make you happier, but not in the way you think. Interesting read over at Secular Philosophy.

  • When flying 35,000 feet above land, I stare down at the natural landscape and marvel at it ... and every time I fly over a city, town, etc. ... I can’t help but to think ... so this is what cancer looks like.

I know, it’s harsh, but have a look, cities and towns just don’t blend very well with the natural landscape.

  • According to this read over at Dailytech, the XBOX360 has a 33% failure rate! Like what?? Like how much? Like one in every three units will have hardware failure! I love my box ... and I’m touching wood it stays in with the other 66%.

  • Old news for some of you out there, but “Demon Days” by Gorillaz ... not bad eh? Not bad at all. Nice tunes on that list.

  • Yes it’s true .. i know Gorn and I also know ShoeGirl. Personally, I think he could have gone a lot more than 30 days.

  • A 16 year old girl proclaimed she is an atheist. The reporter asked her why and she promptly replied, “I was born that way.”

Interesting ... she’s right, you know.

CURRENTLY

  • Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.

  • The God Delusion : Richard Dawkins

Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.

  • Hopes and Fears : Keane

"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.

  • Gears Of War

As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
