NOISE CANCELING
So, you’re sitting there enjoying your new toys. You’re in the coffee shop wing of the local bookstore. You’ve got your MacBook Pro out. You’re working along doing the minor development that you wanted to get out of they way before heading home tonight. You’re listening to music to help you focus. Only ...
You can’t seem to, because for some reason, today, you’re hearing all the back noise, the other conversations, the air conditioning fan, and you can’t seem to barrel down.
I’ve been looking for a decent set of noise canceling headphones for some time now. But as is always the case when purchasing most things of quality, you pay for it. For a while I looked at the Bose Quiet Comfort 3, even tried them out. Simply stunning, they were light on the head, and the sound reproduction was incredible … but @ 500 bones+ with taxes (at least, here in Canada) … well, that just hurts.
No, there had to be a better solution. There had to be a set that would be as close as the Bose QC3’s in sound reproduction, but just not that pricey.
So you turn to your trusted Sennheiser. You have several headphones from them. Love them so much, one pair sits at your desk at work, because the music there has to be just right. No compromises for this puppy.
Then you come across the Sennheiser PCX-250. The reviews you read are exactly what you want to hear out of a set of headphones with noise canceling abilities. You look it up some more and find that this will go nicely with your mobile computing, because the set are small and lightweight, easy to carry around.
Sennheiser PCS-250
You go to the local HiFi store to check them out. You put them on, attach them to your iPod Nano. You look for track that will prove the headphones worth. You stay away from hard rock, because for some reason you want to test old school. You find Tribe, but what song?
Headphones like this should make it easy to groove. You find Electric Relaxation, you hit play … and then you hear the tune play with such clarity, with virtually no ambient noise, you close your eyes and bob your head to the beat.
A couple of hours later you’re in the local coffee shop grooving and developing to some quality sounds.
Sennheiser PCX-250 Noise Canceling Headphones, you decide, will be highly recommended by you if anyone should ask.
PS – they really are a great set, but I’d give them 4/5. The NoiseGard filter house two AAA batteries, so they’ll need replacing, but that’s not as much of a concern as how it imposes on the cable itself. It can get a bit unwieldy, but I’ve sussed out how to deal with it by keeping it clipped to the vinyl case when I use them to listen.

Spending will make you happier, but not in the way you think. Interesting read over at Secular Philosophy.

Chrisopher Hitchens nails it yet again with this piece for Slate Magazine. After reading the piece, I’m inclined to agree with a lot of it.

When flying 35,000 feet above land, I stare down at the natural landscape and marvel at it ... and every time I fly over a city, town, etc. ... I can’t help but to think ... so this is what cancer looks like.
I know, it’s harsh, but have a look, cities and towns just don’t blend very well with the natural landscape.

According to this read over at Dailytech, the XBOX360 has a 33% failure rate! Like what?? Like how much? Like one in every three units will have hardware failure! I love my box ... and I’m touching wood it stays in with the other 66%.

Old news for some of you out there, but “Demon Days” by Gorillaz ... not bad eh? Not bad at all. Nice tunes on that list.

A 16 year old girl proclaimed she is an atheist. The reporter asked her why and she promptly replied, “I was born that way.”
Interesting ... she’s right, you know.

CURRENTLY
Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.
Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.
"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.
As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
