OUR NANNY
All acts, good and bad, come at a cost. The price our Nanny, Auntie, paid to save Tiia from harm was enormous. Harp has been having a hard time dealing with it, because she was there to pick up the pieces. I was on the train ride into work not knowing the seriousness of what happened.
Auntie stays with us from Monday to Friday evening. Every morning, because Tiia prefers to sleep with us, Auntie comes up from the basement and collects Tiia before she wakes and sees her Mom and Dad leave for work.
On Monday morning, as she rounded to the second set of stairs down into the basement, she stepped on to the first step and slipped badly. Holding Tiia, there was nothing she could do in the way of reaching out to grab on to something.
So, she did all she could do. She wrapped up Tiia closely and tumbled down the stairs. Tiia emerged from the fall in tears, shaken up, and crying, but no injuries. Auntie emerged from the fall with two fractures in her left wrist and a badly broken left leg.
Both breaks required surgery. The leg was so badly broken that if the surgery was not successful, doctors were contemplating removing her leg entirely …
My heart simply plummeted when I heard that. I’ve been having a very hard time at work trying to concentrate. Harp, being the caring person that she is, is having an even harder time.
Last night we went to go visit Auntie at the hospital. Both surgeries were a success and she is recovering very nicely. She is perhaps one of the strongest women we know. Harp watched Auntie drag herself to the basement bedroom, while she tried to help.
I had thoughts of thanks today on my way into work. Thanks even to Paul, my brother-in-law, who has been there for Auntie’s family and ours. What we would do without that guy, I simply don’t know. And to everyone else who have been there.
We’re going to help her wherever we can. Be there when she needs, for her physiotherapy sessions … but whatever happens, because Tiia is running around laughing and playing today, Auntie will mean more to my family than she will ever know.

Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.
Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.
"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.
As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
