RSS READING, NEWFIRE, AND EMPIRE

The foray into things webby has become quite the eye opening experience of late. For example, I’ve known about them for some time, and how highly touted they were by their users, but I’ve only just got into using an RSS reader. Yeah, uh huh, no need to rub those eyes, you read that correctly.

I haven’t found a good reader for the PC yet, I’ll scour for one later (maybe one could be recommended?), but right now I’m using, and have grown quite fond of, NewsFire for the Mac. Why an RSS reader? Why now after having gone so long without one?

RSS reading, the way of keeping on top of things, a way that’s been around for ages. About bloody time I jumped on this bandwagon.

Well first off, I don’t want to waste time clicking every bookmarked blog and news site. And believe me my list has grown insanely long. It makes much more sense to just fire up your reader and see which blogs have recently updated, read the short summary, and click further if I wish to see the site.

That’s time well saved. For a while I was looking into a “what’s new since you last came” feature for the blog. But it’s just easier to let the feeds to the work.

As for NewsFire, its interface is very intuitive and it’s easy to set up groups so you can organize your feeds into categories.

*Update – some people keep sites like digg.com on there, but I simply can’t keep up with all that reading. Since I only check NewsFire three or four times a day, following up on 40+ post on one site is way too much.

Kasabian’s Empire is pretty rad, but like many follow up albums, for me anyway, it falls just a notch on the belt short of their debut album

I really like Empire, and the more play it gets the more I seem to warm up to it. Tracks like Sun Rise, Light Flies keep their sound echo from their awesome debut (self-titled) album

CURRENTLY

  • Kingdom of Heaven

Kingdom Of Heaven: The story of Balian’s quest for redemption and his battles against those who seek power in it’s name. This is an excellent movie whose message is perhaps more important today than it was then.

  • The God Delusion : Richard Dawkins

Dawkins tackles it all in his no holds barred approach to whether God exists. The stance? The probability of it? Very unlikely.

  • Hopes and Fears : Keane

"Hopes and Fears” and “Under The Iron Sea” by Keane get constant play from my iTunes. Find out why their music is so good. After all they were the band that inspired Coldplay.

  • Gears Of War

As Marcus Fenix, you fight a war against the immense Locust Horde, which not only out powers but outnumbers you, your squad, and the entire force of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Time to pull out the stops in a game that delivers the next-generation in tactical combat systems in Gears of War.
