MASSEY MAPLE TREE

I’m learning a couple of things while going over the shots taken at the forest.

Firstly, I can’t wait until I get my new lenses. The Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 is on it’s way and probably would have been a better lens to play around with when shooting there. Secondly, I should have pulled out the kit, Nikkor 18-70mm, lens to see the results with that.

Instead I spent most of that afternoon just snapping away with the 50mm. Which I suppose isn’t that bad, but I should have brought the aperture settings to range between from f/6-f/8. I would have gotten images greater areas of focus.

At f/1.4 there was only a small sliver of the image in focus. Ah well, this is how you learn. I’m going to have go back and experiment some more. Still, this shot came out ok, I thought

How about a glossary in here?  Most of us readers, okay I will only speak for myself, I do not understand why f/6-f/8 would have been better.

that’s a pretty good idea ... hmmm ... there are a lot of terms but I’ll see what i can put together, but until then I’ll keep it in mind to explain things better.

Oh ....

And setting the camera with smaller aperture (ie. f/6 - f/8) would mean less light will be come through the lens. This in turn would create a greater depth of field ... more of the picture would be in focus.

With the aperture on the camera set at f/1.4, i was letting in a lot of light ... too much actually ... and creating a shallow depth of field .. meaning less of the image is in focus.

So, to make the Tree picture better I should have used a smaller aperture (f/6 - f/8) and compensated for less light by slowing down the shutter speed. If i can’t get light in through the lens aperture, I can at least expose the the shot longer to compensate…

i hope that’s better ....

I hope
