CINDERELLA CASTLE
This shot of Cinderella Castle, I’ll thank Trent for helping me get the name of it right, was taken while we were on vacation during the Spring Break.
I had just purchased the D70 a couple of days before going to the Magic Kingdom, so I was still learning it. The built-in flash fired, but it’s effects were negligible. With the camera in Auto mode, if wouldn’t have taken the shot unless the flash was triggered.
The shot was slightly cropped as well. Mostly due to the fact that I didn’t pay attention to what was in the entire viewfinder. In this case, the heads of people walking by on the bottom.
Knowing what I know now, and with all that I’m still to learn, I know I’ll pull this shot off more successfully the next time out.
In hindsight, it would have been handy to have had a tripod, or at the very least a monopod ... and yes, I most certainly would carry one around with me, even at the Magic Kingdom ;P.
I would have set the camera to Manual Mode and metered the Castle for the proper exposure at f/8 or f/11, at the least. Why those apertures? My goal would be to create a shot resulting in greater sharpness and detail. But this would be at the expense of a long exposure time of at least 4 seconds, perhaps longer. So, the tripod would be a must.
And maybe, after looking at this shot a little longer, I might take the shot vertically to crop the sides. I dunno ... looks to me that there’s too much black space.
